South Carolina Republican Nancy Mace is under investigation by the House Ethics Committee for allegedly overcharging Congress for her Washington, DC housing expenses. The Office of Congressional Conduct found she sought and received roughly $9,500 beyond actual costs through a congressional housing reimbursement program.

Mace participated in a program designed to help lawmakers with housing, food, and travel expenses between Washington and their districts. The program has faced criticism for lacking detailed expense requirements and effectively providing lawmakers with extra income. Mace's lawyer, William Sullivan, called the report 'fundamentally flawed' and suggested the investigation was influenced by Mace's former fiancé, who co-owned the home.

The House Ethics Committee announced Monday it is investigating the matter. Mace has not responded to inquiries from the Office of Congressional Conduct. She is not seeking reelection to the House and is running in a competitive GOP primary for South Carolina governor.
