A pair of oarfish, the deep-sea creatures often called 'doomsday fish,' washed ashore in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, stunning beachgoers who spotted them struggling in shallow water. The ribbon-like species, which typically lives around 1,000 meters deep in the mesopelagic zone, rarely appears near the surface.

Video footage captured the unusual event as tourists helped push the fish back toward deeper water. The sighting became even more remarkable when a second oarfish appeared near shore shortly after. Local reports indicate only a handful of oarfish have been spotted along this coastline over the past few hundred years, making this double appearance almost unheard of.

Despite the fish's reputation as an earthquake harbinger - 20 oarfish reportedly washed ashore before Japan's 2011 earthquake - scientists emphasize there's no evidence linking the sightings to natural disasters. The Cabo incident ended without any seismic activity, leaving beachgoers with an extraordinary story rather than a warning of impending catastrophe.
