A private investigator has revealed how a critical mistake by the suspect in Nancy Guthrie's abduction led to the release of crucial surveillance footage. The 84-year-old mother of Today host Savannah Guthrie was reported missing after friends noticed her absence from church service on February 1.

Investigators released new images and video showing a masked individual tampering with the doorbell camera at Nancy's home. The suspect's error of disconnecting the camera allowed law enforcement to retrieve the last images, as the footage would have been overwritten without a subscription service. A delivery driver from Rio Rico was briefly detained but later released without charges.

The FBI and Pima County Sheriff's Department worked with private sector partners to recover previously inaccessible footage. Private investigator Andy Kay noted the suspect appeared to have their weapon holstered incorrectly, suggesting inexperience. The case has drawn significant attention due to Savannah Guthrie's high-profile position at NBC News.
