Myrtle Beach officials have moved to annex and rezone two 'donut holes' - unincorporated county land completely surrounded by city limits. Mayor Mark Kruea noted the city still has roughly 40 such parcels scattered throughout its boundaries. These strategic land acquisitions aim to streamline development and municipal services.

In the first deal, the city annexed a 0.9-acre parcel off Professional Drive near Robert M. Grissom Parkway. The land, previously zoned as Horry County Office, Professional, Institutional, will now be classified as Myrtle Beach Medical, Professional. Owner Warren Smith plans to build an office building for Traditional Homebuilders and Clemmons King and Brown, an accounting firm.

The second annexation covers just over 1 acre at Broadway at the Beach. This parcel, rezoned from Horry County Amusement Commercial to Myrtle Beach Entertainment, could accommodate various residential, commercial, and public service uses. While the city remains unaware of specific plans, representatives from Burroughs and Chapin attended the meeting on behalf of Broadway at the Beach Palace Tract LLC.
