Mokas Coffee & Eatery plans to open its fourth Wichita location at the Central and Oliver intersection, marking a significant turnaround for a corner that has seen multiple business closures in recent years. The JRI Hospitality owned chain will build on either the northeast or southeast corner, with construction expected to begin in August and opening targeted for spring 2027.

This development represents a vote of confidence in an area that has struggled commercially, with the former Albero Cafe demolished in 2023 and the CVS on the northeast corner sitting vacant since August. The southeast corner previously housed the long-vacant "Dinky Dillons" building before its recent demolition. Mokas owner Jason Ingermanson cited the "College Hill vibe" and underserved market as key factors in selecting the location.

The expansion is part of Mokas' aggressive growth strategy, with plans to open seven to eight company-owned stores in Wichita before using the city as a training ground for franchisees. The chain recently signed Christian Coleman, son of Wichita businessman Sheldon Coleman, to a six-unit franchise agreement covering Kansas City, Lawrence and Topeka markets. Ingermanson expects to sign another six-unit deal within 90 days, targeting western Kansas markets including Manhattan, Hays and Garden City.
