Michigan Mom Eviction Battle: School Bus Squatters Refuse to Leave

A Michigan woman is sleeping in her car after allowing a family to live in a school bus on her property. Kandie Sherman of Vassar permitted the family of her daughter's friends to stay for six weeks starting in October, but they have refused to leave, turning her generosity into a legal nightmare.

When Sherman attempted to evict them, the bus occupants obtained a personal protection order against her, preventing her from approaching the vehicle. The situation has escalated to the point where Sherman can no longer access her own home. Police chief Ben Guile confirmed the bus violates city ordinances by parking a commercial vehicle in a residential area and using it as living quarters.

Guile explained that the occupants may have established residency rights by receiving mail at the location and staying for an extended period. This transforms the situation from a simple property dispute into a formal eviction process. The case highlights the legal complexities that can arise when informal housing arrangements go wrong, leaving property owners vulnerable to unexpected legal challenges.
