Mav's Top Buns, the cult-favorite cinnamon roll shop that drew lines out the door since 2020, has been sold to new owners. The business started as a pop-up selling from a U-Haul truck before opening a permanent storefront in Middletown in 2023. Founders Mike and Nikki Ashkar announced their departure Monday, citing a desire to pursue new ventures and slow down after five years of rapid growth.

The Ashkars built a devoted following with their fluffy cinnamon buns, earning the nickname "bun cult" for their consistently long lines. They told NJ.com the business served them well but felt ready to explore new opportunities. The couple is considering writing a book about their experience, consulting with other businesses on social media growth, or finding ways to support local parents. They've launched a new Instagram account, @ashkar_adventures, to document their next chapter.

New owners Dan and Kelsey Velez, longtime fans of the business, will maintain the product's integrity and keep all staff members. The transition ensures the beloved cinnamon buns will continue under the same name and recipes. While the Ashkars step away from daily operations, their creation lives on, proving that even cult-favorite food businesses sometimes need fresh leadership to continue their legacy.
