The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced a rare opportunity for public access to its San Diego Temple, closed since July 2023 for renovations. The iconic religious site will host special tours from June 15-17 for invited guests before opening to the public from June 18 through July 11, 2026, excluding Sundays.

Standing 169 feet tall on 7.2 acres along Interstate 5 near La Jolla, the temple represents a significant architectural and spiritual landmark for the region. Built in the late 1980s and early 1990s with its consecration in 1993, the structure serves as the Church's third operating temple in California and houses sacred spaces including baptistry and celestial rooms.

Following the temple's re-dedication on August 23, 2026, access will revert exclusively to church members. This limited public opening provides a once-in-a-generation chance for non-members to experience the interior of one of California's seven LDS temples, which serve a community of nearly 730,000 members across the state.
