Organizers of the upcoming 'No Kings' march in Lafayette are preparing for a massive turnout, requesting street closures to accommodate an expected 5,000 to 6,000 attendees. The Greater Lafayette Indivisible group submitted a formal request to the Lafayette Board of Public Works for multiple downtown street closures during the March 28 event.

The march will run from 1 to 3 p.m., with protesters walking from Tapawingo Park around the Tippecanoe County Courthouse and back. Organizers plan to close Main Street, Columbia Street, and several other downtown routes to ensure pedestrian safety. Safety marshals will be stationed throughout the route to manage the crowd.

This demonstration follows two previous 'No Kings' marches that drew thousands to protest Trump administration policies. A similar 'Hands Off! Mass Mobilization' event on April 5 attracted about 1,000 participants but was disrupted when a motorist pulled an assault rifle during an altercation. The Board of Public Works will consider the street closure request at its March 10 meeting.
