Kroger is shuttering two Houston-area locations this month, marking the latest in a series of store closures across the region. The Heights store at 239 W. 20th St. and the Klein Crossing location at 6060 FM 2920 Rd. in Spring will both close on April 10.

These closures are part of Kroger's broader strategy to streamline operations and improve long-term business health. The company has confirmed that affected employees will be offered transfers to other locations. This move follows the shutdown of three other Houston-area stores last year, including locations on Gessner and Katy Freeway.

Kroger announced plans in June to close 60 stores nationwide over 18 months, though the company has not disclosed specific financial details about the closures. The Houston market has seen significant retail consolidation in recent years, with these closures reducing the chain's local presence to 32 stores in Houston city limits and eight in Spring. The decision reflects ongoing challenges in the grocery sector, where retailers are recalibrating their footprints to match changing consumer patterns and economic pressures.
