A Wichita man employed at Mulvane's Kansas Star Casino has been arrested and charged with multiple counts of illegal gambling, according to Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach's office. 47-year-old Quoc Phu Lam allegedly served as a bookie, placing bets on behalf of other people through a practice known as proxy betting.

Investigators from the Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission allege Lam solicited fellow employees to place bets through him while working at the Sumner County casino. The charges include two counts of commercial gambling, one count of unlawful wagering-proxy betting, one count of attempted unlawful wagering-proxy betting, and one count of solicitation to commit commercial gambling.

Prosecutors allege the offenses occurred between November 2022 and October 2023. After his arrest, Lam posted a $25,000 surety bond. His case is being prosecuted by Assistant Attorney General Lauren Watson, with his next court appearance scheduled for March 12.
