Two senior Iranian clerics, Grand Ayatollah Hossein Nouri Hamedani and Grand Ayatollah Naser Makarem Shirazi, have issued fatwas calling for revenge following the assassination of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The clerics urged Muslims worldwide to avenge the death, which they attribute to the US and Israel. Hamedani declared that avenging the "martyred leader" is obligatory for all Muslims.

Shirazi, one of Iran's most influential religious figures, labeled Israel and the US as "the most wicked enemies of humanity" and called for their removal from the world. The fatwas come amid heightened tensions in the region following Khamenei's killing. Both clerics warned of decisive responses from Iran's armed forces against what they termed "criminal America" and "bloodthirsty Zionists."

Shirazi's past connection to UK funding has sparked controversy. His organization, the Babul Murad Centre in London, received a £15,000 grant from Brent Council in 2009 for promoting "religious tolerance." The council has since stated it has no future plans to fund the organization after being alerted to links with the IRGC. The incident raises questions about oversight of religious organizations receiving public funds in the UK.
