FCC Chairman Brendan Carr told reporters Wednesday that the agency has opened an enforcement action against ABC’s daytime program *The View* after it featured Senate hopeful James Talarico. The move follows a Fox News report that the show may have breached the Equal Time Rule, which obliges broadcasters to offer rival candidates comparable airtime. Carr declined to reveal specifics.

On Monday, CBS pulled the Talarico interview from *The Late Show with Stephen Colbert* and posted it on YouTube, citing legal advice that a broadcast could trigger the Equal Time rule for two other Texas candidates. Colbert later disputed CBS’s claim, saying no censorship occurred. Carr labeled the episode a “hoax,” noting the campaign has raised $2.5 million since the YouTube posting.

Trump‑appointed Carr praised the media circus, while Democrat commissioner Anna Gomez warned the FCC’s aggressive stance could infringe First Amendment rights. Neither *The View* nor *The Late Show* has sought a formal exemption ruling, and the commission has yet to issue a final decision. The agency now faces pressure to clarify how the Equal Time rule applies to political segments on talk shows.
