The FBI is investigating the kidnapping of Nancy Guthrie, mother of Today show host Savannah Guthrie, with authorities confirming multiple ransom notes have been received but no suspects identified. Law enforcement has released surveillance footage of a masked suspect and found DNA evidence on Guthrie's property that is still undergoing testing.

Search efforts have expanded as volunteers recovered a backpack near the property, with one searcher noting they would investigate any area with a decomposed smell. The DNA found on Guthrie's property was mixed, complicating identification efforts. Tucson's Madres Buscadoras de Sonora, a non-profit organization, is among the volunteer groups assisting in the search.

Former FBI agent Jonny Grusing suggests the suspect may have lured Guthrie outside based on surveillance footage showing the suspect covering the doorbell camera before approaching the house. Grusing theorizes the gun may have been a prop and believes the suspect had a personal grievance with Guthrie, potentially confronting her about something specific. Authorities continue to investigate all leads while the search for Guthrie remains active.
