A former high-ranking NYPD official, Kevin Taylor, has been indicted for accepting bribes totaling $35,000 in cash and luxury perks from Florida-based SaferWatch. Prosecutors allege Taylor, then commanding officer of the NYPD's School Safety Division, attempted to steer an $11 million contract for the company's panic alert system towards city schools and police. The indictment details how SaferWatch founder Gene Roefaro lavished Taylor and his partner with gifts including Bahamas and Las Vegas trips, helicopter tours, Broadway tickets, and a medieval-themed dinner theater, alongside multiple cash payments.

Taylor pleaded not guilty to bribery and wire fraud charges. Roefaro also faces charges and claims he was the victim of extortion. This case is the latest in a series of corruption allegations against officials appointed by former Mayor Eric Adams, whose own bribery case collapsed but probes into his circle persist.

Federal investigators first linked SaferWatch to the Adams administration in September 2024 through a consulting firm tied to top officials' brothers.
