Elyria Police Department concluded Operation Sub Zero, a six-week enforcement campaign targeting violent crime, drugs, and weapons offenses that resulted in 30 arrests and the seizure of 14 stolen firearms and 3.75 ounces of illegal narcotics. The operation, which ran from January 1 to February 6, represents a significant escalation in the city's law enforcement efforts against organized criminal activity.

Police Chief James Welsh emphasized the department's commitment to maintaining public safety regardless of weather conditions, stating that "cold weather does not stop violent crime, and it will not stop us." The operation involved multiple specialized units including the Detective Bureau, Neighborhood Impact and Narcotics units, and the Special Response Team working in coordinated fashion.

Among those arrested was 35-year-old Andre Donte Lee, facing two first-degree felony counts of trafficking and possession of cocaine, with a $10,000 bond posted. The operation also resulted in felony rioting charges against three juvenile girls. The charges ranged from weapons violations and drug trafficking to assault and domestic violence, reflecting the broad scope of criminal activity targeted by the initiative.
