Mexican authorities killed Jalisco New Generation Cartel leader Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, known as El Mencho, after tracking his romantic partner. The operation, which included U.S. intelligence support, ended with the drug lord and two bodyguards wounded during a shootout in Jalisco state.

Defense Secretary Gen. Ricardo Trevilla revealed that military investigators followed a trusted associate of one of Oseguera Cervantes' romantic partners to Tapalpa, where they confirmed his location. The operation involved a coordinated land and air blockade with six helicopters and support from the Mexican Air Force, resulting in over 70 deaths including security forces and suspected cartel members.

Oseguera Cervantes attempted to flee but was found hiding in the undergrowth before dying en route to Mexico City. The cartel responded violently, with a logistics operator offering bounties of over $1,000 for each soldier killed. The killing of El Mencho, one of the United States' most wanted fugitives, marks a significant blow to one of Mexico's most powerful drug trafficking organizations.
