DroidUP's Moya Robot Blurs Lines Between Human and Machine

DroidUP unveiled Moya, a humanoid robot with a lifelike human face and warm skin temperature (89–96°F), aiming to redefine human-robot interaction. Unlike rigid competitors, Moya combines advanced humanoid sports capabilities with realistic facial expressions, including pupil movement to mimic eye contact.

Its Walker 3 platform integrates autonomous path planning and LIDAR sensors, enabling smoother navigation than its Walker 2 predecessor, which finished third in last year’s World Humanoid Robot Games. DroidUP founder Li Qingdu emphasized warmth as a design priority, stating robots should feel “like a living being people can connect with.” However, Moya’s 92% human-like walking accuracy—highlighted in a Shanghai Media Group demo—reveals mechanical limitations, as its stiff gait and audible actuator clicks undercut the illusion of fluid motion. The robot’s human aesthetics and bionic integration position it as a niche competitor in a market dominated by cold, mechanical designs.
