Dog Lick Sepsis Amputations: UK Woman Loses All Limbs

A UK woman has undergone a quadruple amputation after contracting sepsis from what doctors believe was a dog lick. Manjit Sangha, 52, spent 32 weeks in hospital and suffered six cardiac arrests following the infection that led to the loss of both legs below the knee and both hands.

Sepsis occurs when the body's immune system overreacts to an infection, attacking its own tissues and organs. The UK Sepsis Trust estimates 50,000 sepsis-related deaths annually in the UK. Sangha's husband Kam said the decline was rapid - from playing with their dog on Saturday to being in a coma by Monday night.

The former pharmacy worker is now fundraising for advanced prosthetics, having raised over £22,000 through GoFundMe and workplace donations at Screwfix. Her case follows that of June Baxter, an 83-year-old who died last year after her dog licked a wound on her leg, causing a fatal infection.
