Columbus police Deputy Chief Elrico Alli has been relieved of duty amid an internal affairs investigation into unspecified misconduct allegations. The investigation, which focuses on a possible violation of division policy, remains ongoing, according to police spokesperson Sgt. Joe Albert.

Alli, who joined the department in 2004 after working with the Youngstown Police Department, was one of four deputy chiefs hired in 2023 as part of Chief Elaine Bryant's leadership overhaul. The previous deputy chiefs had accepted $500,000 buyouts each to leave their positions.

As part of standard procedure, Alli must surrender his gun, badge and other equipment while on desk assignment at police headquarters. The Columbus Division of Police has declined to provide further details about the specific allegations, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation.
