Coca-Cola is discontinuing its Minute Maid frozen orange juice and lemonade products in North America after 80 years. A company spokesperson cited shifting consumer preferences as the reason, with the juice category focusing on products that better align with current consumer demand. The move reflects a broader trend of consumers favoring fresh juice over concentrates.

This decision follows a decline in demand for concentrated orange juice, which was surpassed by not-from-concentrate options in the 1980s. The beverage giant has been streamlining its portfolio, previously cutting approximately 200 beverages in 2020 to concentrate on more profitable offerings like Coca-Cola Zero Sugar. The global juice concentrate market is still growing.

Despite the shift in the U.S. market, the global juice concentrates market is projected to reach nearly $134.1 billion by 2035, according to Business Research Insights. This growth is driven by worldwide demand for beverages. North America holds almost 35% of the market share, driven by strong demand and infrastructure.

Coca-Cola's decision highlights the evolving dynamics of the beverage industry. Consumer tastes, influenced by perceptions of taste, naturality, and health, continue to drive the changes. The company's focus remains on core products, reflecting a strategic adaptation to current market trends, further consolidating its most successful brands.
