Carl State Dept Nomination Collapses Amid Racism Claims

Jeremy Carl's nomination for assistant secretary of state for international organizations appears doomed after bipartisan opposition emerged during his Senate confirmation hearing. Republican Sen. John Curtis of Utah announced he would oppose Carl's nomination, citing his 'anti-Israel views and insensitive remarks about the Jewish people.' Curtis's opposition is particularly significant as it likely provides enough votes to block Carl's advancement if all Democrats also vote no.

CNN's KFile previously uncovered that Carl deleted thousands of social media posts containing inflammatory commentary about race, including references to the 'Great Replacement' conspiracy theory. During the hearing, Democratic Sen. Jeanne Shaheen detailed Carl's recent activity, noting he had tweeted more than 850 times and appeared on five podcasts since his nomination, repeating controversial language. Sen. Cory Booker pressed Carl on his past comments about Jewish people, to which Carl expressed regret but struggled to address similar remarks about other races.

Democratic Sen. Chris Murphy called Carl 'wildly unqualified' and questioned his views on 'anti-White discrimination' and 'the erasure of White culture.' Carl, currently a senior fellow at the Claremont Institute, argued he needed to balance restraint with his advocacy work. The White House maintains Carl is still the nominee, but with opposition from key senators including Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, his confirmation prospects appear bleak.
