The Bulgarian mountain town of Bansko has transformed into a thriving hub for digital nomads, with three co-working centers now serving hundreds of remote workers. Located in the Pirin range, this 10,000-inhabitant town offers a unique blend of winter sports and year-round amenities that have attracted a cosmopolitan community of online professionals.

Among them is Oscar Train, a 25-year-old Dane who spends six months annually working remotely from Bansko. He benefits from a 15 percent tax rate compared to 45 percent in the UK, plus enjoys morning ski sessions before starting his workday. The town's 75 kilometers of slopes have hosted World Cup races, while summer brings cultural events like the week-long Nomad Fest celebrating the "remote lifestyle."

The economic impact has been significant, according to Mayor Stoycho Banenski, who notes that foreign arrivals have helped smooth seasonal income fluctuations. While climate change threatens traditional winter sports, the influx of digital nomads has provided economic stability. However, the transformation has brought challenges, including rising living costs and concerns about gentrification among some residents.
