Britain's $1.4 Billion Push for Community Energy Projects

Britain will invest up to 1 billion pounds ($1.4 billion) in community energy projects, including solar panels on libraries and other public buildings, to help meet climate targets and cut local energy costs. This funding, part of the 8.3 billion pounds committed to Great British Energy (GBE), aims to boost locally owned renewable generation.

Energy Secretary Ed Miliband stated the initiative transfers wealth and power to communities, allowing them to control clean energy profits rather than large utilities. The Local Power Plan, backed by GBE, will distribute grants and loans to community groups and local authorities starting later this year. ($1 = 0.7325 pounds)
