Walmart Shuffles Top Execs Amid CEO Build

Walmart is shuffling top executives as the new chief executive continues to build his team.

Kieran Shanahan, chief operating officer for Walmart U.S., will leave the role this week, the company said in an internal memo viewed by The Wall Street Journal. Shanahan, 45 years old, will be succeeded by Kyle Kinnard, currently COO for Walmart International.

Recent months have seen a series of departures, including Tom Ward, COO of Walmart’s warehouse chain Sam’s Club, and Cedric Clark, the head of store operations for Walmart U.S., in May. Clark’s position remains vacant.

The changes come after Walmart brought in John Furner as its new companywide CEO earlier this year, placing a company veteran with deep Arkansas roots in the top role. It also named new CEOs and key executives for each of its three major business units: the U.S., International and Sam’s Club.

These moves underscore the retailer’s effort to align leadership with its evolving strategy amid a competitive retail landscape.
