US pledges $2B for battery producers

The United States has committed $2B in funding to companies that produce batteries and critical minerals, aiming to lessen the country’s reliance on Chinese suppliers.

President Trump announced at a roundtable with mining executives that the Defense Department will lend $1.4B to next‑generation battery firm Sila Nanotechnologies and has signed contracts with three additional companies.

The push for stronger batteries is driven by growing demands from drones, AI‑driven data centers, and other high‑tech applications, making domestic production a strategic priority for the administration.

This funding is part of a broader effort to secure the supply chain for essential materials and to promote U.S. leadership in emerging technologies.
