Politico has appointed Jonathan Greenberger as its new global editor in chief, replacing co-founder John Harris who is stepping down after two stints leading the publication. Greenberger, 42, joined Politico in 2024 as executive vice president and will officially take over on May 1. Harris will become chairman.

Greenberger brings extensive media experience from his role as Washington bureau chief for ABC News and executive producer of ABC's "This Week." In his statement, he emphasized accelerating Politico's agenda-setting journalism through investment in journalists and emerging technologies. The publication now operates from bureaus in Washington, New York, Sacramento, Brussels, London, Paris, and Berlin, with plans to expand to Australia.

Axel Springer acquired Politico for over $1 billion in 2021, and the company recently laid off about 3 percent of staff in January as part of strategic realignment. Greenberger's appointment follows an extensive search process where his "new and unconventional thinking" convinced leadership he could bring forward-looking vision to the publication. His background in television journalism and recent executive experience at Politico position him to lead the company through its next growth phase.
