Tucker Carlson, the former Fox News host who was a key supporter of Donald Trump's 2024 presidential campaign, is now expressing remorse for that backing. In a podcast episode released Monday, Carlson said he would long be "tormented" by his role in helping Trump return to the White House, acknowledging he was part of the "reason this is happening right now" regarding the Iran conflict.

Carlson, a longtime opponent of American foreign interventions, has broken sharply with Trump over the war with Iran, which most Americans oppose according to polls. He condemned Trump's Easter Sunday social media threat to Iran about the Strait of Hormuz, calling it "evil." Trump responded by attacking Carlson on Truth Social, suggesting he "see a good psychiatrist" and describing him as a "Low IQ person."

This rift marks a stunning reversal for Carlson, who was Fox News's highest-rated prime-time host before his 2023 dismissal. The company paid $787.5 million to settle the Dominion Voting Systems lawsuit over election misinformation—a case that revealed private texts where Carlson wrote "I hate him passionately" about Trump.
