Newmont Profit Rises Despite Lower Gold Prices

Newmont Mining Corporation announced a stronger second-quarter profit and increased revenue, even as its average gold prices declined from the previous quarter.

The company reported a profit of $2.2 billion, or $2.06 per share, a rise from $2.06 billion, or $1.85 per share, in the same period last year. Adjusted earnings, excluding certain one-time items, reached $2.10 a share, surpassing the $1.99 a share expected by analysts surveyed by FactSet.

Revenue climbed to $6.12 billion from $5.32 billion year-over-year, though it fell slightly short of the $6.36 billion anticipated by analysts. Newmont stated it remains on course to achieve its full-year financial projections.
