McDonald’s is working to win back customers as Americans cut spending, especially lower‑income consumers. To improve service and food quality, the chain has appointed a new leader for its core U.S. business. The move is part of a broader strategy to raise performance in its largest market.

On Tuesday, Skye Anderson, a 26‑year veteran of the company, was named president of McDonald’s U.S. business, succeeding Joe Erlinger, who had held the role since 2019. Anderson had been promoted to U.S. chief operating officer in April after serving in a global business role.

CEO Chris Kempczinski said, “While our playbook is working around the world, we see an opportunity to raise the bar in the U.S. and accelerate performance in our largest market.” The appointment signals a focus on boosting service and menu quality.

McDonald’s reported that U.S. same‑store sales rose 0.8% in the quarter ended June 30, matching Wall Street forecasts but lagging behind the chain’s recent domestic growth pace. Guest counts fell during the period, while higher check sizes and sales of pricier items helped drive the increase.
