Iran’s security chief set out tough conditions for opening the Strait of Hormuz, after a new strike on shipping, darkening prospects for a deal. Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, listed demands: the U.S. must permanently end the war, lift its naval blockade, withdraw forces, end all sanctions, free Iran’s frozen assets, pay war reparations, stop threats and insults, and cease military action against Iran’s militia allies across the region, according to state news agency IRNA.

The United Arab Emirates reported that Iran launched a missile attack on one of its ships, adding to regional tensions. The missile strike underscores the escalating confrontation between Tehran and Abu Dhabi, further complicating any diplomatic resolution to the waterway dispute.
