H&R Block Revenue Up, Dividend Raised

H&R Block reported a rise in fourth-quarter revenue and increased its quarterly dividend. The financial services company posted net income of 293.7 million dollars, down slightly from 299.4 million a year earlier. Earnings per share rose to 2.30 dollars from 2.20 dollars.

Adjusted earnings from continuing operations were 2.38 dollars a share, topping the Fact Set analyst consensus of 2.21 dollars. Revenue climbed to 1.14 billion dollars from 1.11 billion dollars, also beating estimates of 1.12 billion. The company attributed the gains to strong tax preparation volumes and improved client retention.

The dividend hike reflects confidence in its cash flow and long-term growth prospects.
