Greggs has announced plans to close four manufacturing sites as part of a restructuring of its in-house operations. The move could lead to 740 job losses across the U.K. bakery chain. The company launched a consultation with trade unions and employee representatives to refine the proposals.

Subject to consultation, the plans would result in annual cash savings of about 20 million pounds ($26.5 million), at a cost of around 60 million pounds. Savings are expected to be realized across 2028 and 2029. The restructuring follows a review aimed at ensuring Greggs operates in the most cost-efficient manner.

In other news, Greggs reported a 7.7% increase in total sales for the quarter ended Sept. 26, with like-for-like sales up 3.4% at company-managed shops. An improved performance in recent months, coupled with continued cost controls, means the company now expects a modestly better outcome for 2026.
