Goodyear Reports Loss on Sales Drop, Rising Costs

Goodyear Tire & Rubber reported a second-quarter loss of $204 million, or 71 cents a share, a significant shift from a profit of $254 million ($0.87 a share) in the same period last year. This downturn was primarily driven by a combination of reduced tire sales volume and increased operational costs.

On an adjusted basis, the company’s loss was 61 cents per share, a figure that was slightly better than the 63 cents a share anticipated by analysts surveyed by FactSet. Goodyear's net sales experienced a decline of 4.8%, totaling $4.25 billion, surpassing Wall Street’s expectation of $4.19 billion.

Organic net sales saw a 1.4% decrease, attributed directly to lower tire unit volume. The company's financial performance reflects challenges in both sales volume and cost management during the recent quarter.
