Gates Foundation Cuts 500 Jobs Amid Epstein Review

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation announced plans to cut up to 500 jobs, representing roughly 20% of its workforce, by 2030. The philanthropic organization also launched an external review of its engagement with the late Jeffrey Epstein, whose association with Bill Gates has drawn intense scrutiny. CEO Mark Suzman outlined these changes in a memo to staff.

The job cuts come as the foundation faces mounting pressure following revelations about Gates' relationship with the convicted sex offender. Earlier this year, Gates apologized at a town hall for having affairs with two women and expressed regret over his Epstein ties. He has been summoned to testify before Congress about these connections in June.

The foundation's restructuring represents one of the largest workforce reductions among major philanthropic organizations. The dual announcement of layoffs and an Epstein review signals a significant shift in the foundation's operations as it attempts to address reputational damage while streamlining its operations for the future.
