Gates Foundation Orders External Review After Epstein File Leak

Bill Gates’ charity has launched an independent probe into its past ties with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, following the release of the extensive files that name the co‑founder and former advisers.

The Seattle‑based foundation, one of the world’s largest philanthropies, said it sent staff an email in March outlining the review, which was first reported by the Wall Street Journal. CEO Mark Suzman has commissioned the study to assess past engagements and current vetting policies.

Details on the reviewer, the timeline, or whether findings will be public remain undisclosed. The review is slated for a summer update to the board. Gates has not changed his role as chair, but a scheduled House Oversight Committee hearing in June will probe his relationship with Epstein.

In February, Gates cancelled a speech in India amid the fallout, and the foundation issued a statement expressing regret over any employee interaction with Epstein. The investigation threatens to eclipse the foundation’s global health work.
