Ford Motor is competing for its largest military contract since the Cold War, aiming to build the U.S. Army's newest tactical truck. This pickup is designed to also function as a mobile power source on the battlefield.

The automaker is now in a race with its rival, General Motors, as the Pentagon urges U.S. automakers to leverage their manufacturing capabilities for modernizing and restocking military equipment. These resources have been significantly depleted by ongoing conflicts in the Middle East and the war in Ukraine.

General Motors has been developing its own version, the ISV-Heavy, based on the heavy-duty Silverado pickup. Military officials have recently begun field testing the GM prototype, which was unveiled in 2024.
