Ex-JPMorgan Banker Alleges Racism and Assault

A former JPMorgan Chase banker, Chirayu Rana, has filed a federal lawsuit alleging pervasive racial discrimination and harassment within the bank's leveraged finance team. This new complaint expands on a previous state lawsuit filed in April, which accused former co-worker Lorna Hajdini of sexual assault and harassment. Rana, who was the only nonwhite member of his team, claims his superiors used racist slurs against him and that he was sexually assaulted.

Rana joined JPMorgan in 2024 and departed the following year. The federal lawsuit, filed on Monday, names three additional former JPMorgan colleagues as defendants, in addition to Hajdini and the bank. The case has garnered significant attention on Wall Street due to the serious nature of the allegations, which include violations of civil rights.

The initial state lawsuit against Hajdini and JPMorgan quickly gained traction, leading to the expanded federal filing. Rana's allegations paint a picture of a hostile work environment, with specific claims of racial epithets and sexual misconduct directed towards him during his tenure at the bank.
