Eli Lilly reported a significant increase in net income and revenue for the recent quarter, primarily driven by robust demand for its GLP-1 weight-loss medications, Mounjaro and Zepbound.

The pharmaceutical giant announced second-quarter net income of $7.1 billion, or $7.94 a share, a notable rise from $5.66 billion, or $6.29 a share, in the same period last year. Adjusted earnings, excluding one-time items, reached $8.38 a share, surpassing analysts' expectations of $6.01 a share.

Revenue experienced a substantial surge of 48%, climbing to $22.97 billion. This growth was largely attributed to a 60% increase in sales volume, though partially tempered by a 13% decrease in realized prices. The company's revenue figures exceeded Wall Street's projections of $20.69 billion.
