Dassault Systemes agreed to buy Nordic Capital's Aris Global, a U.S. supplier of software to the life-sciences industry, for up to $2 billion, seeking to bolster its artificial-intelligence offering.

The French software company said Thursday it is buying Aris Global for about $1.8 billion in cash at closing and up to $200 million in additional payments linked to AI-related revenue targets.

Dassault Systemes said the deal would allow it to capitalize on the life-sciences' shift to AI and precision medicine. The company expects the acquisition to help revenue growth and earnings per share in the first year after completion, anticipated in the second half subject to regulatory approvals and other customary conditions.
