AutoNation experienced a 1% revenue decrease, reaching $6.93 billion in the second quarter, primarily due to a decline in new-vehicle sales. Despite this, the auto retailer reported a significant profit increase to $182.1 million ($5.39 per share), up from $86.4 million ($2.26 per share) in the previous year.

Adjusted earnings per share, excluding one-time items, came in at $5.56, exceeding analysts' expectations of $5.48. However, the overall revenue fell short of the $7 billion estimate, and same-store sales saw a 2% reduction.

The company's performance highlights a mixed financial picture, with profitability improving while overall sales volume faced headwinds in the new vehicle market.
