Alcoa Lowers Alumina Output Forecast

Alcoa has reduced its full-year alumina production forecast due to operational challenges at its Pinjarra, Australia refinery, exacerbated by gas supply disruptions from Cyclone Narelle. The company now anticipates producing between 200,000 and 300,000 fewer metric tons of alumina in 2026, with total production expected to be between 9.5 million and 9.6 million metric tons.

Shipments are also projected to be lower by 300,000 to 400,000 metric tons. Alcoa stated that instability at the Pinjarra refinery, which began in late March, was worsened by the cyclone's impact on gas supply. To meet customer commitments, the company has sourced some alumina externally.

Despite the revised guidance, Alcoa reported a stronger second quarter. Profit increased to $407 million, or $1.53 per share, a significant rise from $164 million, or 62 cents per share, in the same period last year. Revenue also saw an increase.
