The world’s smartest AI models are now superhuman at math, though they still respond to moral support from humans. While jogging in San Francisco, Anthropic employee Jarred Sumner used the Claude app to instruct the powerful AI model to tackle the infamous Riemann hypothesis.

While it did not find a solution to the 167-year-old conjecture, the AI made a related finding that one Stanford number theorist called "the most impressive result that AI has produced in math so far."

Remarkably, Sumner played an invaluable role in this breakthrough despite not understanding the math. Having ended his formal education after one semester of high-school geometry, Sumner primarily provided encouragement to the AI while it processed unintelligible strings of equations.
