U.S. stocks climbed Wednesday, propelled by significant gains in megacap technology companies like Apple, Alphabet, and Amazon, which each rose over 3%. These advances helped major indexes remain in positive territory, counteracting a decline in chip stocks. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.29%, the S&P 500 rose 0.38%, and the Nasdaq Composite saw a 0.62% increase.

Adding to the upbeat market sentiment were strong bank earnings and a dramatic surge in PayPal stock. PayPal shares jumped 17%, marking their best single-day performance, following reports of a takeover offer from Stripe and Advent International at $60.50 a share, valuing the company at approximately $53 billion. This surge comes after PayPal's stock had fallen significantly from its 2021 peak.

Further bolstering the market, Morgan Stanley reported a 58% jump in second-quarter profit to $5.65 billion, driven by strong investment banking and trading revenues. BlackRock also announced a record $15.3 trillion in assets under management, with its shares climbing 6.6%. Conversely, Elevance Health experienced an 8.5% drop despite beating earnings expectations, as it announced plans to exit the District of Columbia's Medicaid market.
