Oil was broadly flat and U.S. futures mostly higher amid doubts over a Middle East peace deal and ahead of key CPI data Wednesday. Iran said it was close to a deal with Oman to open the Strait of Hormuz, while Benjamin Netanyahu rejected President Trump's plan to disarm Hamas.

The S&P 500 rose 0.08% after closing at a record Friday, the Nasdaq gained 0.3%, and the Dow slipped 0.08%. Markets are watching Wednesday's inflation report after Friday's surprise drop in nonfarm payrolls reduced expectations for a September Federal Reserve rate hike.

Asia-Pacific equities were mostly higher, with Japan's Nikkei surging 2.1%, the Kospi up 0.65%, Hong Kong's Hang Seng rising 1.0%, and China's Shanghai Composite gaining 0.7%. European markets were mixed: the Stoxx 600 and Germany's DAX edged higher, while France's CAC 40 and London's FTSE 100 slipped. Germany's Aumovio and Plus500 led Stoxx 600 gainers.
