Norwegian state-owned energy producer Statkraft announced an $8.6 billion investment in Norwegian power generation over the next decade. The company revealed that many of Norway's largest hydropower facilities require urgent upgrading and modernization, which will boost capacity and improve electricity generation during peak demand periods across the Nordic region.

The 80 billion Norwegian kroner investment will be split equally between maintaining existing assets and funding upgrades, new development, and capacity expansion. Hydropower accounts for the bulk of the spending, exceeding 70 billion kroner. This substantial investment reflects Norway's commitment to maintaining its energy infrastructure while expanding output capabilities in a competitive European market.

The modernization program comes as European energy markets face increasing volatility and demand for reliable renewable sources grows. Statkraft's investment represents a significant commitment to Norway's hydropower dominance, ensuring the country can continue exporting electricity while meeting domestic needs through enhanced grid efficiency and generation capabilities.
