Iran War Hits California Energy Supply Hardest

California faces disproportionate energy risks from the Iran conflict due to its heavy reliance on imported crude. The Golden State imports roughly 75% of its crude oil, with nearly one-third coming from the Middle East. This dependence makes California uniquely vulnerable to disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, the critical chokepoint for global oil supplies.

South Korea, one of California's primary fuel suppliers, is drastically reducing exports amid the crisis. Market intelligence shows the Asian nation will ship about half its normal jet fuel volume to California this month. India, another key supplier, has also slowed shipments, threatening gasoline and jet fuel supplies for the nation's most populous state.

Chevron's refining chief Andy Walz warned the situation could become "super tight" if not resolved soon. The last oil tanker to pass through the Hormuz strait completed deliveries late last month, signaling continued disruptions. California's energy infrastructure now faces severe strain as global tensions escalate in the Persian Gulf region.
