In a dramatic shift from traditional military procurement, Ukraine has launched online marketplaces allowing frontline troops to select and order drones directly from their phones. Captain Denys Poliachenko, head of unmanned systems for Ukraine's 25th Brigade, demonstrated how soldiers can browse hundreds of specialized drone models and have them delivered within days.

This decentralized approach marks a fundamental break from generations of standardized weapons systems. Ukraine's military now operates two websites - Brave1 and DotChain - where brigades can purchase drones using allocated credits or donor contributions. The system includes performance bonuses, with units earning points for successful drone attacks that can be used to acquire additional equipment.

The innovation addresses a critical challenge: drone technology evolves too rapidly for traditional military bureaucracy to keep pace. As new models emerge that can evade jamming, fly farther, and carry heavier payloads, Ukraine's marketplace approach ensures units get the most current technology suited to their specific battlefield needs.
