President Trump is reportedly urging congressional leaders to pursue impeachment articles, creating an unprecedented political situation. Sources indicate the president has personally pressed allies in the House to move forward with proceedings, despite Republican leadership's reservations about the political risks.
The move comes amid intensifying scrutiny over Trump's actions surrounding the January 6 Capitol attack and his handling of classified documents. Legal experts note that Trump's active role in seeking impeachment marks a significant departure from typical presidential responses to such investigations.
Republican leaders are divided on whether to proceed, weighing the potential consequences for party unity and upcoming elections. The situation remains fluid as lawmakers debate the legal and political implications of moving forward with impeachment while Trump remains in office.
