Katie Zacharia, named as Donald Trump's new press secretary, was fired after just five days in the role, the New York Times reported.
The ouster came as Ms. Zacharia was shadowed by questions about how she had presented her legal career and handled her first press briefing.
The abrupt dismissal underscores the turbulence surrounding the communications operation supporting Mr. Trump.
The White House did not immediately comment on the change.
